Sixteen months to be exact!

In January 2022, we made a decision that took us in a completely different direction. We committed to that decision, ignoring what our gut was telling us and every red flag we encountered from day one. There were many!

We try to bring good energy to everything we do and genuinely thought we could overcome the myriad of challenges we faced daily as a result of our decision. We believed we could turn things around for the better and stayed the course though. Ugh! It was a rough year that fought every good effort and threatened to crush our good nature. It takes a lot to take the wind out of our sails and we were both operating on autopilot by the end of 2022. My right eye had begun twitching relentlessly. Thankfully, the time finally came to get ourselves unstuck and dig our way out of that untenable situation. Granted, not doing so sooner, that part was on us.

It is such a relief to now have the tension and instability that plagued us throughout 2022 and that whole experience finally in our rearview. We dug our way back up into the light and feel like ourselves again; happy, relaxed, experiencing renewed energy and excitement for what’s ahead. and thankfully, my eye is no longer twitching.

Some good things have come out of our experience in 2022: it has led us to where we are now, which is a very good thing. It has also taught us to listen more closely to our intuitions, be kinder to ourselves and to be more intentional with where we shine our light.

If I never see a shovel again, it will be too soon!😉

They recommended and installed REDARC’s RedVision TVMS. It’s a DC to DC charging system that works seamlessly behind the scenes distributing power from our lithium battery to both fridges, camp lighting, multiple usb ports, inverter and more, that also provides power protection and ease of control.
We are able to monitor real-time data, such as the state of charge, charge input, load and condition of the lithium ion battery and have control of up to ten accessories through the system’s bluetooth connection with the RedVision app on our phones or from the control panel mounted just inside one of our CastleFab Cargo Keepers.
Seamless and intuitive to use, one of the best things about REDARC’s RedVision System for us is that while managing the output of the power drawn from the Lithium battery and providing control from one central system for everything we rely on in camp, as well as allowing for solar input, there is never any draw on the starter battery. Also, it’s just some pretty darn cool tech!

If you are lucky enough to spend a little time wheeling in Moab, you are lucky enough. There’s no place else quite like it. Take any trail set against Moab’s breathtakingly surreal backdrop of ancient landforms and you will be transported into a land shaped and reshaped by tremendous and unimaginable forces of upheaval, erosion, wind, ice and water that have been occurring for some 300 million years, back to a time before dinosaurs roamed, when Moab was situated on the coast of an inland sea on the supercontinent of Pangaea. The epic story is in the rocks. It’s a lot to take in, but the experience of wheeling in Moab will grab you and etch itself indelibly into your soul! And so we are drawn back to experience and to be enchanted by Moab again and again and to wheel with old friends and new.

Day One: The Pickle Trail OHV Trail with ModernJeeper in Moab, Utah.

An adventure in Moab is always a good time. Two days of wheeling with ModernJeeper Adventures hosted by Outlaw Jeep Adventures in Moab makes for one epic Jeep adventure! ModernJeeper Adventures along with Outlaw Jeep Adventures took care of everything from food to logistics and made sure we were all hooked up with new Rugged Radios and guides. We were split into two groups for both days. On the morning of day one, our group set out to tackle a trail known as The Pickle, a short drive just northwest of Moab near Sevenmile Rim. The trail explores the area near Hidden Canyon, with parts of the trail traversing through sandy washes in the canyon and others over a slickrock section of Entrada Sandstone called the Moab Tongue, aka Mashed Potatoes. Obstacles included the fifteen foot double-ledged dry waterfall known as Dill Pickle, a dicey squeeze into the Pickle Slicer, a double climb called the Jalapeno Pickle, copious mashed potato-like sandstone mounds in the Mashed Potato area and finally a dip into the Gravy Boat. We really enjoyed this trail. Different from some of Moab's more popular trails, but a great one nonetheless. The trail offers some challenging obstacles and beautiful scenery, with views into Hidden Canyon, Book Cliffs to the north and the La Sals to the southeast in the distance. We will definitely come back to wheel there again!

Day Two of ModernJeeper Adventure Moab: Hell's Revenge in the Sand Flats Recreation Area

Another great day of wheeling with ModernJeeper Adventures! Two days, two totally different trails. This video features day two on Hell's Revenge 4x4 Trail. Situated northeast of Moab, the trail is rated a 6 by the Red-Rock Four-Wheelers and offers views of Arches National Park, the La Sals, to the cliffs that overlook Moab Valley. We had such a great time traversing through steep climbs, loads of slickrock, sharp turns, a few steep decents, loose rocky areas and we all clenched a little as we passed through Hell's Gate. A big thank you to ModernJeeper and to Outlaw Jeep Adventures. An awesome two days of wheeling for sure!

Death Valley is truly a land of extremes! A vast and seemingly inhospitable place, but it was so much more than we could ever have imagined. We covered a lot of ground on our adventure with ModernJeeper in 4 days. Throughout the trip, Del Albright (Uncle Del, as we all called him) led the way as he regaled us with Death Valley's many riveting tales and storied history over the CB and by fireside each night. We were awed by Death Valley's incredible landscapes and ever-changing scenery and learned so much about it's fascinating past. Overlanding in Death Valley was an epic adventure we will never forget! A big thank you to Del and all the folks with ModernJeeper for planning this amazing trip! Also, thank you to Robert up at the Cerro Gordo Mine for sharing with us all the colorful tales and history of the old mining ghost town. We thoroughly enjoyed his stories!

*Note regarding the time-frame of filming: This Adventure in Death Valley took place back in early March of 2020 before Covid19 had started to really hit the United States and before social distancing had become necessary. The Rubicon IS the quintessential Jeep adventure. ModernJeepers really hit this one out of the park with a 4 day amazing adventure. Starting on day one with a visit to MetalCloak's headquarters in Sacramento to a mini-Skillz Day and driver's meeting at Prairie City SRVA before heading to the trailhead of the Rubicon where we were to set up camp on the first night. With lake-side designated camp spots and meals prepared in camp for us each night, we were well-taken care of throughout the entire adventure. Over the course of the next three days, we worked our way from Loon Lake through the many obstacles along the Rubicon Trail, such as The Gatekeeper, Little Sluice, Big Sluice, Cadillac Hill among others. We had ample time to really soak in the adventure and truly enjoy our experience on the Rubicon.

The wheeling was awesome, the weather was perfect, the views sublime and the food delicious! Thank you to the entire ModernJeeper's crew. Many thanks to the cook crew that pushed on ahead of us each day on the Rubicon in order to have great meals prepared for us when we reached camp each night. We wanted for nothing. It was an incredible time had by all and truly an epic adventure!

From it's wind-swept coast to it's densely forested hills, Northwestern Oregon is hauntingly captivating and incredibly beautiful. Our two day Jeep adventure with ModernJeeper Adventures would take us out into the dunes of Sand Lake Recreation Area and on into the wooded hills of the Tillamook State Forest to traverse it's endless network of meandering trails.

We had an amazing time exploring the forest's many trails and racing up and down the dunes at Sand Lake near Tillamook, Oregon. We only scratched the surface of what this area has to offer and we will definitely return for yet another awesome Jeep adventure on the Northwestern Oregon Coast!

Thank you to ModernJeeper Adventures for bringing us all together for a great adventure in the Pacific Northwest. Thanks to our trail guides, John of Salem Jeepers and Lee of Jolly Jeepers. We were in good hands! They know the trails well and did a tremendous job guiding us through the trails on both days and sharing their knowledge of the area. An adventure we will all most certainly be remembering for a long time to come!

We signed up to attend the ModernJeeper Adventures second annual Moab Jeep Adventure. We had a great time with two days of wheeling several of Moab's iconic trails, Golden Spike and Moab Rim to name a few.

ModernJeeper teamed up with Outlaw Jeep Adventures of Moab for the event and they took good care of all of us throughout the weekend. Meals and guide taken care of, all we had to do was show up with our Jeeps ready to wheel!

We drove out to White Pockets in Vermilion Cliffs National Monument, Arizona from Kanab, Utah.

The Trail leading to White Pockets is recommended for 4-wheel drive vehicles with decent clearance due to some deep sandy areas. It was a nice drive in with a short hike to White Pockets. Spice our 12 year old boxer, doesn't have the energy level she did two years ago when we visited, so we took it slow. We took several rests to and from White Pockets finding a nice tree to sit under in the shade on the way.

The beautiful rock formations and the peacefulness of the area is a powerful tonic and you can spend hours here just soaking it all in.

On our way back, we came across a family in an all-wheel drive vehicle who had found themselves hopelessly stuck in deep sand and were in need of rescue. Happy to help them out of their situation, we used our ARB hydraulic jack for the first time to raise the front end enough to slide the Maxtrax under their front tires! It worked like a charm and they were happily on their way again.

The sun was quickly setting, so we opted to spend the night on the trail. It would be our first time camping in our Ursa Minor J30 roof top tent. After finding a nice spot just off the trail to set up camp, we cooked up some chili and corn bread and with our bellies full, crawled up into the Ursa Minor for a restful night of sleep! We woke early to a cool, overcast morning. French pressed coffee and scrambled eggs were a welcome start to the day!
